At Vanderbilt, Maya helped create the same welcoming environment that had attracted her to the school in the first place. She mentored a “Visions Group” of twenty or so freshmen, helping them navigate the campus and providing ongoing support throughout the year. Maya got to know her students through weekly meetings and helped them work through issues both emotional and academic. Though Maya graduated in 2013, she remains close friends with several of the students she mentored. She is proud to say that they are all graduating this year.
After graduation, Maya moved to Pennsylvania for work; she now lives in Germantown and works as an on-site coordinator for Johnson & Johnson. In her free time, Maya enjoys running. She completed her first marathon in November and plans to participate in a half-marathon in April. She is also preparing for the GRE. Though she has no immediate plans to go back to school, Maya knows she wants to continue studying Chemistry or Chemical Engineering at the graduate level in the future.
In addition to exam prep, Maya tutors students in Chemistry, Physics, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, and Spanish. She advises students to remember that “this is just the beginning of the journey, not the end, so don’t sweat the small stuff. You can be successful wherever you end up.”
Testimonial for Maya
“Christianson Tutorials provided a great tutor, Maya, for our three children. Previously, when we tried to work with the kids to improve their test-taking and schoolwork, it was a battle. But, with Maya, she makes it easy. She gets them to do what they need to do! She molds to their needs, and they love working with her. I would recommend her to our family and friends.”
